Did You Start With a Plan?

Okay don’t roll your eyes, I get it. As a solopreneur – a coach, consultant or other independent professional – I know you don’t need a stuffy 40+ page document to have a successful business. Trust me I went that route and it was only after I shredded my complicated business plan (which I lovingly referred to as an over sized paper weight) that I was able to really get clear about my business.
Having a Plan is Not an Option.
Wait let me repeat that: Having a plan is NOT an option. If you planning on running a successful business you must have a plan. The good news is that as a solopreneur the type of plan you create is completely optional. Unless you are planning to walk into a bank requesting a huge loan, chances are (aside from a few trusted friends and family members) no one other than you will ever see the plan for your business. Now I have heard both sides of the business planning saga from one extreme (a 50 page plan) to another extreme (a plan on a napkin) and everything in between. Personally I find that as a solopreneur you don’t have a lot of time or energy to put into an overly complicated plan but you care more about your business than to carelessly jot it down on a napkin.

THE TRUTH “If you don’t know where you are going, you won’t know when you get there.” “Failing to plan, is planning to fail.”
