The School of Bits and Bytes

The online world has come a long way from its early roots as a platform for military connectivity during a time of war, and as the playground of a group of giddy scientists. Despite those roots, the Internet has branched out substantially, and it is now a great place for learning just about anything that you might want to know about practically any topic that you can imagine. While it can be daunting to think that all of that amazing knowledge is available to you at any moment and from any place (where do you start?), once your head stops spinning it can be great for upgrading your skills and learning entirely new ones.

You could almost refer to the Internet as the school of bits and bytes, because of how much data is flowing all around you at all times. Just imagine that you are in the middle of a monsoon, while you are floating in the middle of the ocean, and you will have a pretty accurate visualization of how much knowledge you are able to access when you are online. It is amazing that anybody who has access to the Internet does not have a huge amount of knowledge on a wide variety of different topics.

After all, you can do more than just go to school on the Internet. You can also do all sorts of research, from informal sources such as blogs and individuals’ websites all the way up to the most scholarly of medical journals and research notes. You can even gain access to entire clinical trials through the Internet, and learn about all kinds of different topics right from scientists who are on the front lines of discovery.
